Jian Xiong is a violist, His music comes from his confidence and control of each period and his passion for music, On his viola, he always shows the audience different surprises, he was borned in a small town in middle China, and he hold a Bachelor’s of Music Degree in Viola Performance from the Guangxi Arts University, He currently has received Hartt Talent Scholarship and is pursuing graduate degree in viola at The Hartt school.

As an internationally performer, Jian has been performed at Chinese—ASEAN Music Festival, Beijing Modern Festival, and CADENZA International Music Festival , Jian has received CADENZA International Music Festival the first prize of string group.  In 2023, Jian received full scholarship to Texas Music Festival and Atlantic Music Festival.

Jian is a advocate and commissioner of contemporary music, Whether as a soloist or chamber musician, Jian is actively involved in the promotion of new music and is always keen to discuss with composers the performance and development of the viola in contemporary music. He always actively encouraged all composers to write about the viola and recently having commissioned composer Jiaxin Zhang composed the having Starlight Filtering Through the Dawn for solo viola and fixed electronic. In addition, Jian has premiered works by Jiaxin Zhang (Starlight Filtering Through the Dawn and Three Landscapes in a) , Rui Liu (Equinox Flower ) , Fengda Qin(Arctic Circle ) and Eve Beglarian (where to go).

Now Jian studies viola with Eastman school of music Prof. Masumi Per Rostad , and studies Chamber music with The Juilliard school Prof. Ayako Oshima, Formerly,Jian studied with Prof. Rita Porfiris, Prof. Liyuan Liu, Prof. Junwei Wang and the violist Zhenzhen Dai.

Jian has a passion for playing works from different periods and he is always able to bring out the characteristics of each period, and you can be surprised by the variety of his playing. In his free time, he is always out with friends enjoying food, sports and taking pictures.
